Natural Wood Characteristics
Solid wood is a natural material. Each board is unique and may vary in colour and grain. Occasional sound knots and other natural characteristics are part of genuine beech and are not considered defects.
Processing & Preparation
The board is supplied as solid woodworking material for further processing. Depending on the selected surface, it can be planed, sanded, cut, drilled, routed, glued and finished to suit your project.
After delivery, allow the alder to acclimatise in its intended indoor environment for around 48 hours before final machining or assembly.
The straight, parallel edges also make the boards suitable for edge-gluing into wider panels.
WHY BEECH?
Dense, fine-grained and hard-wearing
Beech is valued for its dense structure, fine grain and hard-wearing character. Its diffuse-porous texture gives the wood a clean, refined appearance with a light cream to warm beige colour and subtle pinkish undertones.
From cutting boards and shelves to benches, furniture components and glue-ups, solid beech is a versatile hardwood for projects where durability, precise machining and a smooth, refined surface matter.
PRODUCT QUESTIONS
Questions about our solid wood boards?
Which should I choose: rough-sawn or planed & jointed?
Choose rough-sawn if you want to machine and dimension the beech yourself.
Choose planed & jointed if you want clean surfaces and straight edges with less preparation before starting your project.
Why is the planed & jointed board thinner?
Our rough-sawn beech boards are approx. 52 mm thick. Planing and jointing removes material to create clean, even surfaces and straight edges, resulting in a final thickness of approx. 40 mm.
Can I glue several boards together to make a wider panel?
Yes. Beech is well suited for edge-gluing into wider panels. The planed & jointed option is especially convenient for projects such as tabletops, shelves and furniture panels.
Is the wood kiln-dried and ready for indoor use?
Yes. Our beech is kiln-dried to approximately 8–12% moisture content and is suitable for indoor woodworking. As with all solid wood, we recommend allowing it to acclimatise to the conditions in your workshop or room before processing.
What natural variation should I expect?
Beech naturally varies in colour and grain. Individual boards may range from light cream to warm beige with subtle pink or rose undertones, along with small knots and other natural characteristics.
Does the board have a live edge?
No. These beech boards are supplied without a natural live edge. Rough-sawn boards require further machining, while the planed & jointed option is prepared with straight longitudinal edges.
